What is Thai massage?

Thai massage is a 2,500-year-old healing tradition combining pressure-point work along the body's Sen energy lines with passive, yoga-like stretching. It's practised on a floor mat in loose clothing — and tends to release deeper tension than a Western oil massage.

Originating at Wat Pho in Bangkok and refined across centuries of Buddhist medical scholarship, traditional Thai massage was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2019 — a recognition reserved for living cultural practices of outstanding human value.

Sessions in Switzerland typically run 60 to 120 minutes; most salons also offer Western-style oil treatments and Thai foot reflexology. For deeper background, see the Wikipedia entry on Thai massage.
